The purpose of this essay is not to "bash" or demean Roman Catholics; quite the contrary! Out of love for Roman Catholics, this essay will go through each of the above doctrines, show where the church has taught each one, and show from the Bible whether or not each doctrine is actually something God wants us to believe. As Christians, our goal should be to believe the things that God wants us to believe - and nothing more. It is unloving to see someone believing something wrong and not tell them about it.
The Bible tells us: "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1).
The Bible commands us to "try the spirits whether they are on God." We do this by testing what they teach against what God has revealed in His Word. As the Apostle John said, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth" (3 John 4). The purpose of this essay is to uncover the truth.
